Tough News

Twice this year we have heard the word "cancer".  That is two times too many.  First was the news of my dad, and today we heard the word in regards to our Benjamin.  It's a tough pill to swallow, something you never want to hear, especially in regards to one of your treasures.  We're still working through it, processing it all.  My heart physically aches.

I mentioned some doctor's visits in an earlier post.  We were hopeful at the time that the growth on the back of Benjamin's knee was simply a ganglion cyst.  It is not.  It is one of three possible types of cancerous growths.  At this point we know it needs to be removed in its entirety, so surgery is scheduled for December 20th.  The doctor is hopeful that after successful surgery, there will be no necessary follow-up, such as traditional radiation and chemotherapy.  We will know more from pathology reports after surgery.

Fortunately, at this point Benjamin is not physically affected by the tumor.  Emotionally he is pretty easy going, just wanting to be assured that he will be all right after the surgery.

Your prayers are greatly appreciated as we move through the days and weeks ahead.

Praying, praying. Heard tough news 25 years ago when my husband had a skin cancer travel to his salivary gland. His doctor was so sure it would "get" him eventually. After surgery and radiation, Kevin has been cancer free for 25 years. Only God! Will be constantly praying for your precious son and for you all.

It does seem like a tunnel now, but Jesus is there with you. When we got the news about Kevin all those years ago, I can still remember the INTENSE fear. I even called our minister and asked where God was. I learned through that dark night just where God was. He was right there with us. We know your family already knows that. You are such sweet and beautiful children of God.

Another thing I remember about that time is that my father-in-law came over the night of Kevin's diagnosis and just held us for the longest time.

Holding you all across the miles in prayer and in our hearts.

Love to you all,
the bourkes

Continuing to pray, Jocelyn. I know Benjamin will feel the peace of God as he goes through surgery and RECOVERS quickly thereafter!!!
