Chicago - Day 4

We only visited one place today, but we spent almost seven hours there!  The Museum of Science and Industry has been our favorite this week.  It was like all the museums we've visited packed into one.  We could have spent WAY more time there, but unfortunately we were all getting wiped out by late afternoon.  There is so much to mention.... but you name it, I bet we saw it today.  Very cool stuff!

We took our time getting ready to head out this morning.  We love our view of the neighborhood around us from our second story apartment.  I love that the boys sat shooting the breeze for a long time over their hot chocolate this morning. 

On to the fun at the museum:

We saw a German U-boat, a very incredible sight!  This one was captured during WWII and has been at the museum since 1954.  Pictures can't do justice to the massive size of it.

The boys took "diving" lessons:

Our favorite section was the Science Storms.  Benjamin was in awe of the 40 foot vortex.  There was everything from tsunamis to tornadoes to avalanches.

Much to Benjamin's disappointment, the Mythbusters exhibit doesn't open until next week.  He loves that show!

A massive mini-Chicago display complete with running trains, bridges and such.  So cool!

Baby chicks and eggs hatching, very fun to watch.

We thought their space section was better than the planetarium that we visited!

Meet Stan.  He is a lifelike man, commonly used in medical schools.  There are only three around the nation that are open to the public.  Yep, we got to see one of them!  He has a pulse, can verbalize his problem to you, can have a heart attack, and do many other computer generated things.  Amazing!

Also in the section of the museum called YOU, there is a line of preserved human fetuses from days old to 9 months.  They are all real specimens.  In one aspect it's very sobering to think of these little lives lost, and in another aspect it's incredible to see our Creator's Hand.  After looking at these and talking a bit about them Ami said, "I think I want to see my China mommy now."  I'm glad the display room was dark because it took a bit for me to hold it together.  I'm so thankful this treasure was not aborted, and that I have the blessing of being called "Mommy" by her. 

Taking a quick break to sit down.  We walked what seemed like a few more miles today!

Tomorrow we'll pack up, hit a few little places in the city, then pick Chris up after work and head on home.  It's been a great week!
